The Ugly Otter and his Beautiful Wife on a trip in 2015.  ('Ol Ugly has gotten uglier, and Beautiful Wife has gotten beautifuler since this photo.)

A short history of the
Route 66 Traders
web site.

The "Route 66 Traders" web site was started in 1999 by the Ugly Otter and his Beautiful Wife as a web site selling quality Old Pawn Indian Jewelry.  This old pawn jewelry was eventually merged into their very popular web site "Ugly Otter Trading Post" (http://ugyotter.com) which at that time sold Indian Jewelry, Indian Pottery, and Indian Kachinas, and as a result the "Route 66 Traders" web site was idle for "many moons".  The "Ugly Otter Trading Post" web site is still going strong, operated by the Elko Crew, Dan & Cathy. You can go to it by pressing Ugly Otter Trading Post

The Ugly Otter's sister and her husband took over the pottery section of the Ugly Otter Trading Post in 2004 and operated it up until September of 2007 at which time they retired.  The web site shut down again for many years.

So, now, the "Route 66 Traders" web site has been re-activated by the Ugly Otter (and his Beautiful Wife) for the purpose of selling quality Native American Pottery and Navajo Rugs.

Seems like we just gotta stay busy, or else we go nuts!

The Ugly Otter and his Beautiful Wife live in Tucson, AZ, and in their travels have many opportunities to find and buy this quality Indian Pottery and the hand-woven beautiful Navajo rugs.  This is also an excuse to travel thru the beautiful mountains and deserts of the American Southwest which they love so well.

They travel many states, but the states of New Mexico and Arizona in particular are their favorite hunting grounds for unique Indian Pottery and rugs.  The Acoma Pueblo in New Mexico is one of their favorite places, and of course the Navajo Reservation is on their "must go" list.

They also have traveled to the unique Pueblo of "Mata Ortiz" in the Mexican state of Chihuahua to obtain the world famous pottery produced there.  They have met, and been invited into the home, of that very famous artist "Juan Quezada" who is credited with the revival of the ancient designs and methods used in creating the beautiful pottery that the Pueblo became famous for.  Due to the lack of safety in Mexico, we no longer travel there - but we still obtain the beautiful Mata Ortiz pottery when the opportunity presents itself.  To see a PBS article about Juan Quezada and the miracle he brought to his village, "Click Here"
